Here’s How Drupal Can Be a Force for Diversity and Inclusion

As a long-time member of the Drupal community and a co-founder of Evolving Web, I think there's a huge opportunity to leverage Drupal to build a stronger, more plural open source community. Drupal has long led the way in the digital space as a tool to create accessible content and experiences for all kinds of audiences. Being more explicit about our actions to increase the inclusiveness of the community that surrounds Drupal is an important next step.

Discussing Diversity at DrupalFest 2021

Last week I had the pleasure of hosting Evolving Web's Diversity in Tech event at DrupalFest. I’m fairly new to the Drupal world, and I was excited about this opportunity to connect with the community, which is one I’ve always admired.

The idea of hosting a diversity-themed event at Evolving Web came to us on International Women's Day. It was my second week on the job and together with Suzanne Dergacheva, our co-founder, we decided to host an internal discussion on the subject of women in tech.

My First Month as an Intern at Evolving Web

Originally from Winnipeg, MB, I moved to Fredericton, NB before beginning high school. I’ve always had interests in a variety of areas. I have a background as a musician, experience with content creation and design, and a fascination with computers. I was interested in learning more about web development, and working with an experienced agency seemed like an ideal way to gain those valuable skills.

Giving Back to Drupal with Free Trainings & Scholarships

A few weeks ago, we launched our Scholarship program to give organizations in need due to the COVID-19 crisis access to free training. Our goal is to help scholarship recipients build a solid technical foundation and the skills they need to build a solid future. So far, we've had a tremendous response and have been able to give away dozens of scholarships to our upcoming courses.

Honouring John Conway (1937-2020), Mathematician Who Inspired the Evolving Web Logo

Today, we'd like to honour Princeton mathematician John Conway, who passed away from COVID-19 at 82 years old. He made impressive contributions in various areas of mathematics but is most widely known for his invention of Conway's Game of Life, a cellular automaton in which simple rules give rise to surprisingly complex behaviours.
