Accessibility. Everybody’s talking about it these days, and if they’re not they should be.
Making websites accessible to people with disabilities has been identified as a need since the invention of the internet, yet more than 90% of websites are still inaccessible to people with visual, hearing and cognitive disabilities or anyone reliant on assistive technology. But expectations are changing, and in many places and sectors accessibility is now the law.
It’s a challenge, but there is much web agencies can do to embed accessibility into their processes. Developing design systems—libraries of reusable assets and components—made up of accessible content is a surefire way of ensuring that present and future projects are made accessible right from the foundation.
